One evening, when I was 16 years old and still in high school, I decided I would apply at a local Dunkin' Donuts. I didn't want to just be at home doing nothing, awaiting the next school day.
So I asked my step dad if I could borrow the car to go and fillout an employment application. Without even looking at me, his answer was "no". I then walked to the local donut shop and filled out my application.
On the way back home, as I walked down a residential street I was approached by a guy who walked up to me and asked me if Ihad any weed. I said no and walked away, when all of a sudden I hear noise behind me. As I turn aroundI see about 10 individuals running towards me. They quickly surrounded me and asked what I was doing there and in what neighborhood I lived in. I immediately knew I was in danger.
As three guys ran towards me, I knew it wasn't going to be good. I only had enough time to hit one guy and after that, I was shoved to the ground. Once on the ground, the rest of the guys caught up to where I was at and started beating me up. It was also for no reason, i didn't even know these guys.
As I'm getting beatu up, the only thing I was able to do was kick people and as I did, somebody took out a knife and stabbed me at the top of my thigh and sliced it down to my knee. The cut was about 23 centimeters long and one and a half inch deep.
Regardless of the attack, I was somehow still able to get up and walk home. Although I knew the streets are never 100% safe, after this experience, it really made me realize the type of environment in which I lived in. It changed me in the way it definitely made me more aware of my surroundings.
